Parameters

Version and Platform Compatibility

9 PostgreSQL 18.6 parameters. Each one has its own animation and explanation.

Other Platforms and Clients

  • allow_alter_system: Set to off to make ALTER SYSTEM fail, when config is managed by other tools.
  • transform_null_equals: Treat "x = NULL" as "x IS NULL" (for old Microsoft Access clients). Leave off.

Previous PostgreSQL Versions

  • array_nulls: Whether an unquoted NULL in array input text means a null element.
  • backslash_quote: Whether \' may be used as a quote inside string literals (SQL-injection protection).
  • escape_string_warning: Warn when a backslash appears in an ordinary (non E'') string literal.
  • lo_compat_privileges: Skip privilege checks on large objects (pre-9.0 behaviour). Security risk.
  • quote_all_identifiers: Quote every identifier in SQL that PostgreSQL generates (EXPLAIN, ruleutils, dumps).
  • standard_conforming_strings: Backslashes in '…' strings are literal characters (SQL standard). Default on since 9.1.
  • synchronize_seqscans: Let a new sequential scan of a big table join one already in progress.
