Parameter · Connections and Authentication / Connection Settings

bonjour_name

Sets the Bonjour service name. An empty string means use the computer name.

  • Default: '' (empty)
  • Type: string
  • Applies: Restart required

In plain words

The name under which the server appears when bonjour is on. Empty means the computer's name.

For DBAs and operators

Only used when bonjour is on and the server was built with Bonjour support; otherwise it is ignored. The name is what service browsers display for the _postgresql._tcp service; it is not a host name and does not affect how clients connect. Useful only to tell several advertised clusters on one machine apart (e.g. "Dev PG 18"). Requires a restart.

How to change it

Change in postgresql.conf or ALTER SYSTEM, then restart the server.
