max_function_args

Shows the maximum number of function arguments.

  • Default: 100
  • Type: integer
  • Range: 100 … 100
  • Applies: Read-only

In plain words

A function or procedure can have at most 100 arguments. This is a compile-time limit, not something you can configure.

For DBAs and operators

Defined by FUNC_MAX_ARGS in pg_config_manual.h; changing it requires a rebuild and initdb. Exceeding it: ERROR: cannot pass more than 100 arguments to a function. The limit also applies to VARIADIC calls with literal arguments, and to functions like json_build_object/concat (50 key/value pairs). Pass an array, a composite type or JSON instead.

How to change it

Fixed when PostgreSQL was built or the cluster was initialised. You can only read it.
