Statistics

13 PostgreSQL 18.6 parameters. Each one has its own animation and explanation.

Cumulative Query and Index Statistics

  • stats_fetch_consistency: Within a transaction, re-read statistics each time (none), per object (cache) or all at once (snapshot).
  • track_activities: Show what each session is running right now in pg_stat_activity (query, state, start time).
  • track_activity_query_size: How many bytes of each running query pg_stat_activity can show (longer text is cut).
  • track_cost_delay_timing: PG18: measure how long VACUUM/ANALYZE slept because of cost-based throttling.
  • track_counts: Count inserts, updates, deletes and scans per table. Autovacuum depends on it: keep on.
  • track_functions: Count calls and time of user functions in pg_stat_user_functions: none, pl, or all.
  • track_io_timing: Measure how long reads and writes of data blocks take (pg_stat_io, EXPLAIN, pg_stat_statements).
  • track_wal_io_timing: Measure time spent writing and syncing WAL (pg_stat_io rows for object = wal).

Monitoring

  • compute_query_id: Compute a query fingerprint (query_id) for pg_stat_activity, EXPLAIN, logs, pg_stat_statements.
  • log_executor_stats: Log getrusage() statistics for the execution phase of each statement.
  • log_parser_stats: Log getrusage() statistics for the parse, analyze and rewrite phases of each statement.
  • log_planner_stats: Log getrusage() statistics for the planning phase of each statement.
  • log_statement_stats: Log getrusage() CPU, memory and I/O totals for every statement (crude profiling).
