log_executor_stats

Writes executor performance statistics to the server log.

  • Default: off
  • Type: bool
  • Applies: Session (superuser)

In plain words

Writes a resource-usage block to the log after each statement has been executed: CPU time, memory, page faults, I/O blocks and context switches used while running the plan.

For DBAs and operators

The block is headed LOG: EXECUTOR STATISTICS and has the same ! system usage stats layout as log_statement_stats. Mutually exclusive with log_statement_stats.

"filesystem blocks in/out" counts real block device I/O by the process (not OS-cache hits), and involuntary context switches hint at CPU contention. For per-node detail use EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS); for workload-wide numbers use pg_stat_statements and track_io_timing.

How to change it

A superuser (or a role granted SET) can change it per session with SET.
