post_auth_delay
Sets the amount of time to wait after authentication on connection startup. This allows attaching a debugger to the process.
- Default:
0 - Type: integer (s)
- Range: 0 … 2147s
- Applies: New connections
In plain words
Like pre_auth_delay, but the new backend sleeps after the user has logged in. A developer can then attach a debugger before the session runs its first query.
For DBAs and operators
Has backend context: it can be set in postgresql.conf or per connection (PGOPTIONS="-c post_auth_delay=30"), but not with SET inside a running session. Range 0–2147 s.
Besides debugging, it is occasionally used to reproduce timing problems with poolers or connection timeouts. Leave it at 0 outside experiments.
Developer option: meant for debugging and testing PostgreSQL itself. Leave it at the default on production servers unless a specific diagnosis calls for it.
How to change it
Set in postgresql.conf and reload; applies to connections opened afterwards.
